The opportunity

Job Description

Baystate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Chestnut Operating Room team at Chestnut Outpatient Surgical Services, Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. This part-time position offers the opportunity to provide specialized perioperative nursing care in a nationally recognized surgical program known for innovation, advanced technology, and patient-centered care.

The Chestnut Operating Room supports 12 inpatient and outpatient operating rooms performing procedures across multiple specialties including Neurosurgical and Spine, General/GYN/Colorectal, Pain/Podiatry, CMF/Plastics, Urology, ENT/Dental, Orthopedics, Ophthalmic, and IVF services. You will work with an experienced interdisciplinary team including surgeons, anesthesia providers, residents, surgical technologists, anesthesia technicians, and operating room support staff to deliver exceptional surgical care to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient surgical patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to adult and pediatric surgical patients
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care throughout the surgical experience
  • Serve as a patient advocate while promoting a culture of safety and quality
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Monitor patient status and respond appropriately to changes in condition throughout the perioperative process
  • Support a variety of surgical specialties within a fast-paced operating room environment
  • Adhere to evidence-based practice, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and outstanding patient experiences

Schedule

  • Job Type: Part-Time
  • Shift: Days (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • Hours: 30 hours per week
  • Schedule: 10-hour day shifts, rotating days
  • Weekend Requirement: As assigned based on department scheduling needs
  • On-Call Requirement: Participation in a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends and other assigned coverage periods

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher
  • Minimum one year of Registered Nurse experience in surgical services is strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous Operating Room nursing experience
  • AORN certification or interest in obtaining certification

Compensation

Hourly range: $41.82 - $66.30 (minimum - maximum). New hires typically start in the lower part of the range. Actual salary will be determined based on relevant experience.
