Registered Nurse (RN) Assistant Director Cancer Center

UMC Health System is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Assistant Director for the Cancer Center in Lubbock, Texas. This leadership position oversees the daily operations and administrative duties of ambulatory oncology clinic and infusion nursing units. You will supervise nursing staff, manage resources efficiently, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient care while maintaining continuity across inpatient, ambulatory, and emergency settings for oncology patients.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations and administrative duties of assigned nursing units
• Plan, coordinate, and evaluate all activities impacting patient care delivery across inpatient, ambulatory, and outside healthcare facilities
• Ensure continuity of care and appropriate transitions for oncology patients
• Hold self and staff accountable for identification, evaluation, documentation, and intervention of patient needs
• Collaborate with the Cancer Center Director of Operations and leadership team to build nurse retention, engagement, and team motivation
• Identify opportunities for program expansion within ambulatory pediatric oncology clinics and infusion services
• Work with physicians, management, and clinical leaders to promote efficient, high-quality nursing care consistent with UMC Health System best practices
• Assist in recruitment, interviewing, selection, hiring, training, orienting, mentoring, evaluation, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and rewarding of staff
• Develop and evaluate staffing plans to ensure sufficient and appropriate resources
• Provide direct patient care and nursing-related activities when needed to support ongoing care
• Manage employee timekeeping records and time-off requests
• Build cohesive teams through effective communication, leadership, guidance, and conflict management
• Support workplace safety initiatives, DNV readiness, Magnet accreditation, evidence-based practice scoring, and competency evaluations
• Facilitate staff education and lifelong learning within the framework of UMC Health System strategic goals
• Meet patient and family needs by taking responsibility for patient safety, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes
• Resolve difficult patient situations and establish long-term relationships with pediatric patients and families to assist in navigating disease and treatment

Schedule

• Monday through Friday
• 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
• Valid Texas RN License or eligible Compact License
• Current BLS certification from American Heart Association
• 3 years of professional nursing experience
• 2 years of experience in assigned clinical area
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
