Richland Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatric School Age-Adolescent acute inpatient unit. This full-time position with variable scheduling offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive clinical nursing care to school-age children and adolescents in an acute care setting.
You will be responsible for delivering patient-centered care that incorporates evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process. Your role includes conducting thorough nursing assessments, developing individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, and evaluating patient responses to interventions.
Responsibilities
- Collect data and complete nursing assessments using age-specific standards, policies, and tools; recognize and respond to changes in patient status
- Develop individualized plans of care based on patient age and assessed needs in collaboration with the patient, family, provider, and healthcare team
- Update care plans based on changes in patient condition and communicate updates to team members
- Identify realistic, measurable goals and outcomes prior to discharge and validate them with patients and families
- Demonstrate respect for patients' and families' cultural, spiritual, and belief systems in care planning
- Plan for discharge to ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions to the next level of care
- Provide direct care to assigned patients consistent with the established nursing plan
- Perform nursing tasks within the RN scope of practice according to organizational, departmental, and unit policies
- Delegate nursing tasks appropriately to healthcare team members and ensure completion of assigned work
- Monitor quality of care continuously and maintain appropriate surveillance of assigned patients
- Coordinate and organize patient care based on unit and patient priorities, utilizing internal and external resources while incorporating cost containment principles
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety procedures, protocols, and patient care standards
- Use performance indicators to collect data, monitor quality, and evaluate effectiveness of nursing care
- Complete assigned hospital and unit performance improvement monitoring and audits
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans based on patient response to interventions; document progress toward outcomes and revise plans as needed
- Report changes in patient condition and refer unresolved problems to appropriate healthcare team members
- Identify and assess patient and family learning needs; provide education using clear language and examples; implement and evaluate teaching plans
- Communicate patients' and families' educational needs to other members of the healthcare continuum
- Maintain professional competency through continuing education and professional activities; maintain current licensure and complete required mandatory education
- Ensure written documentation and oral communication focus on pertinent information to support patient and family care needs
- Serve as patient advocate and care coordinator, working collaboratively with providers and healthcare team members
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Nursing or nursing diploma with licensure to practice as an RN
- One year of experience as a registered nurse, or successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program, a comparable residency from another organization, or one year of LPN experience (for internal candidates within the same service line)
- Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or licensure to practice as an RN in South Carolina

Schedule
This is a full-time position with variable scheduling. The acute inpatient setting may require scheduling for weekends, holidays, and on-call work.
