Registered Nurse (RN) - Acute Care, Peds School Age-Adolescence, FT, Nights

Richland Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatric School Age-Adolescent acute inpatient unit. This full-time night shift position provides clinical care and direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient and family-centered care. You will demonstrate clinical competency utilizing evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes.

Clinical Setting

This acute inpatient pediatric unit serves school-age children and adolescents. The role requires significant scheduling flexibility, including shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call work as needed in an acute care environment.

Responsibilities

• Collect data and complete nursing assessments utilizing age-specific standards, policies, and tools; recognize subtle or actual changes in patient status and response to interventions
• Develop individualized plans of care based on patient age and assessed needs in collaboration with the patient, family, provider, and interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Update care plans based on changes in patient condition and communicate updates to team members
• Identify realistic, measurable goals and outcomes prior to discharge; validate with patient and family
• Demonstrate respect for patient and family cultural, spiritual, and belief systems in care planning
• Plan for discharge to ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions between levels of care, including appropriate referrals
• Provide direct care to assigned patients consistent with the established nursing plan
• Perform specific tasks within the RN scope of practice based on organizational, departmental, and unit policies and procedures
• Delegate nursing tasks appropriately to healthcare team members and ensure completion of assigned tasks
• Monitor quality of care continuously and ensure appropriate surveillance of assigned patients
• Coordinate and organize patient care based on unit priorities, utilizing internal and external resources and cost containment principles
• Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety procedures, protocols, and patient care standards
• Utilize performance indicators to collect data, monitor quality and effectiveness
• Complete assigned hospital and unit performance improvement monitoring and audits
• Evaluate plan of care effectiveness based on patient response to interventions; document progress toward expected outcomes and revise as needed
• Report changes in patient condition and refer unresolved problems to appropriate healthcare team members
• Identify and assess patient and family learning needs; provide education using familiar language and terminology; implement and evaluate teaching plans
• Communicate patient and family education needs to others in the healthcare continuum
• Evaluate own nursing practice in relation to professional standards, state statutes, policies, procedures, and current knowledge; maintain professional licensure and complete required mandatory education
• Ensure written documentation and oral communication focus on pertinent information to support patient and family care needs
• Serve as patient advocate and care coordinator, working collaboratively with providers and healthcare team members
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Nursing or nursing diploma with licensure to practice as an RN
• One year of experience as a registered nurse, OR successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or comparable residency from another organization, OR one year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience for internal candidates within the same service line
• Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or licensure to practice as an RN in South Carolina
• Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, DHEC, CMS)
• Ability to provide care within the scope of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act
