This position offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive nursing care to geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients in an outpatient surgery setting. You will utilize the full nursing process—assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation—while collaborating with an interdisciplinary health care team to maintain high standards of professional nursing care.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM
  • No weekends or holidays
  • 40 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Perform bedside shift reports at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Conduct comprehensive admission histories and physical assessments of patients
  • Differentiate variations of normal and abnormal assessment findings and analyze and prioritize abnormal findings
  • Anticipate actual or potential problems or health concerns in hospital and home settings
  • Perform ongoing assessment of patients' psychosocial, physiological, and educational needs per unit policy
  • Recognize and document subtle changes in patients' physical and mental status
  • Integrate analysis of diagnostic information into patient assessment and care planning
  • Formulate individual nursing diagnoses according to policies and procedures
  • Formulate individualized plans of care including discharge planning based on standards of care
  • Modify care plans based on ongoing assessment and changes in patient status
  • Administer prescribed treatments and medications according to hospital policies and procedures
  • Recognize and question unsafe, incorrect, or inadequate orders and intervene to clarify patient orders
  • Utilize opportunities during patient care delivery to teach patients information necessary to attain optimal self-care
  • Evaluate patients' responses to care and comprehension of education
  • Document all aspects of the nursing process in a legible, concise, clear, and timely manner using appropriate hospital systems and correct medical terminology
  • Involve patients and significant others in all aspects of the nursing process
  • Act as a patient advocate and respect patient rights and confidentiality
  • Promote clear communication and relay information effectively
  • Understand and act within guidelines for addressing ethical concerns
  • Utilize policies and procedures to keep patients safe from falls
  • Assist in wound prevention and prevention of hospital-acquired pressure injuries

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Valid, current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa
  • Maintains valid licensure, certification, and registration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare experience within the last three years
