This is a PRN (per diem as needed) position for a Registered Nurse in the Post-Surgical PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit). You will provide routine and complex nursing care to post-surgical patients, working independently while demonstrating awareness of all relevant clinical aspects. The role requires the ability to manage contingencies, make appropriate assignments, and delegate to other care providers as needed to manage the clinical situation.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
- Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with your level of practice
- Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided
- Assess patient learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identify issues and resources
- Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in state of employment or compact
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at time of hire
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- One year of experience in related nursing specialty preferred
- Perioperative RN Residency or recent practice in an OR/Perioperative setting preferred
Onboarding and Competency Requirements
- All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member
- Initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and Perioperative Department-specific competency validation
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements required
Certification Grace Periods
If you are an Experienced Associate (at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years):
- ACLS: within 30 days of hire
- PALS: within 30 days of hire
If you are a New Graduate or Experienced Associate New to the Specialty (less than one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years):
- ACLS: within 90 days of hire
- PALS: within 90 days of hire
