UVA Community Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Perioperative Operating Room at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work as a leader of the healthcare team in a surgical setting, establishing personalized relationships with patients and their support systems while collaborating with physicians and other team members to provide comprehensive perioperative care.
As a Perioperative Operating Room Nurse, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote optimal health outcomes. You will utilize best scientific evidence and compassion to assist patients in navigating their surgical experience. You accept responsibility, authority, and accountability for the management and provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures, working under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager or Nurse Manager.
Schedule
Full-time position with day shift 4 x 10 hour shifts, Monday through Friday with rotating call to include weekend call.
Responsibilities
- Establish authentic personalized relationships with patients and their chosen support systems
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
- Act with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care
- Educate patients and their support systems in collaboration with the healthcare team
- Analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress patients through their plan of care
- Ensure completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and related therapies
- Prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels
- Operate various equipment including portable cardiac monitors and other perioperative equipment
- Provide routine nursing care such as starting IVs, performing dressing changes, and other clinical interventions in a timely manner
- Assist in critical situations including administering CPR
- Administer and evaluate medication therapies
- Perform patient transfers and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members to provide efficient patient treatment
- Develop team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback
- Resolve conflicts independently as appropriate
- Accept responsibility for actions and respond positively to feedback from others
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current RN licensure in applicable state
- Operating room experience required
- Ability to perform basic nursing skills on groups of patients and assume charge responsibility
- Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly
- Ability to administer medication utilizing the five rights
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written form
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to safely and effectively care for all patient populations
- Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills
- Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 100 lbs; use Safe Handling Equipment for weights over 35 lbs
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
- Four-year Bachelor's Degree preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Current RN licensure in applicable state required
- CPI certification within three months of hire required
- If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board-approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. You must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
Experience
- One year of relevant operating room experience preferred
Physical Demands
This position requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. The job may require the use of safety equipment such as HEPA masks for infection prevention. You must be able to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed. On-call responsibilities are required as directed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base compensation range: $37.17 to $61.56 hourly
- $15,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates
- Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education
- Pay range does not include applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for eligible positions
