Registered Nurse - Periop 101 Training Program - November 2026

Mayo Clinic is seeking Registered Nurses for the Perioperative 101 Training Program, a comprehensive nursing program designed to prepare you for a career in the operating room. This program provides didactic and clinical experiences to help you become a well-rounded, fully competent circulating perioperative registered nurse with foundational scrub skills. Upon acceptance, you will be paid an RN OR hourly rate and are benefit eligible as of day 1 of employment. Candidates who complete the program will be awarded contact hours from the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and be eligible to take the Perioperative Certification exam after completing two years of perioperative nursing.

The tentative start date for this program is November 2, 2026. This position will only be posted through 12:00am EST on August 29, 2026.

Mayo Clinic's state-of-the-art hospital in Jacksonville includes 34 operating rooms featuring an IMRI OR suite and a dedicated endovascular OR suite. The facility uses modern equipment and advanced technologies to create an environment that merges the art of healing with the science of medicine.

Program Opportunities

• General Surgery

Responsibilities

• Circulate, scrub, and coordinate the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities
• Provide optimum perioperative nursing care and function as the patient's advocate
• Demonstrate clinical competency including guidelines and standards of care, policies and procedures, patient and staff safety procedures, and technical preparation and operation of equipment
• Work effectively as part of a team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical staff
• Prioritize and respond to the needs of the surgical team during cases
• Function effectively under stress and pressure
• Maintain professional attitude and confidentiality
• Transport audiovisual equipment and perform moderate to heavy lifting as needed

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk almost continuously during work schedule
• Exposure to cuts, burns, and bio-hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Current RN license by applicable state requirements (RN license required 1 week prior to start date, but not required to begin the application process)
• Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Experience working in a team environment
• Computer skills required; prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred
• Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting
• Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting

Education Requirements

• All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with an RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Location and Travel

• Qualified applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance to campus to meet 45-minute on-call requirement
• Relocation is offered for those outside of a 70-mile radius
• This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
