The opportunity

Job Description

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for a per diem night position on the Inpatient Surgical Unit. This role is not in the PACU and requires a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience. You will provide direct patient care on the surgical unit during night shifts, working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver safe, compassionate, and competent care.

Clinical Setting

You will work on an inpatient surgical unit at NYU Langone Health, a fully integrated health system with multiple inpatient locations and over 320 outpatient locations across the New York area and Florida. Responsibilities

  • Collect, assess, and document patient healthcare data
  • Prioritize care based on collected data and recognize changes in patient condition
  • Formulate and implement the initial plan of care in collaboration with providers (physicians or nurse practitioners)
  • Involve patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team in identifying realistic and measurable care outcomes
  • Implement interventions in a safe, timely, and appropriate manner, applying escalation processes as needed
  • Consider the needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultural groups in all care activities
  • Document assessments, reassessments, and interventions per hospital standards
  • Educate patients and families regarding health status and the established plan of care
  • Determine learning needs and implement educational plans using EHR education tools
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes and modify plans as needed
  • Demonstrate understanding of quality and safety performance improvement initiatives, including nurse-sensitive quality indicators such as HAPU, CAUTI, CLABSI, and falls prevention
  • Demonstrate understanding of unit throughput efficiencies and metrics
  • Delegate activities appropriately and in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act
  • Comply with unit-based and organizational professional standards, New York State regulations, and requirements from outside agencies such as the NY State Department of Health and The Joint Commission
  • Participate in unit practice councils to critically appraise and influence practice
  • Serve as a support and resource for nursing staff and students
  • Engage in self-assessment and peer review to promote professional development
  • Adhere to clinical practice guidelines in care delivery
  • Comply with annual education and mandatory regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse license in New York
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
  • Fluent written and spoken English language skills
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership in pertinent professional organizations

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $1.44 hourly. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. Compensation does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of additional compensation or benefits.
