Registered Nurse Per Diem BSU/ARU/CARS

Arnot Health is seeking Registered Nurses for per diem positions in the BSU (Behavioral/Special Unit), ARU (Acute/Recovery Unit), and CARS (Cardiac/Advanced Recovery Services) departments. This is a flexible float pool nursing role that allows you to work across multiple specialties while maintaining control over your schedule.

As a Registered Nurse, you will assume responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during your designated shift. You will provide direct patient care using the nursing process, therapeutic communication, and collaboration with the healthcare team. You report to the assigned Unit Director.

Responsibilities

• Perform systematic assessment and data collection focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status of patients
• Analyze assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses
• Identify expected outcomes individualized to each patient
• Formulate goal-directed, prioritized plans of care based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes
• Identify patient and family learning needs and implement appropriate educational measures
• Implement care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner
• Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation in unit systems and patient records
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided and progress toward patient outcomes
• Function with awareness and application of safety protocols established by the institution
• Perform efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols while remaining calm and documenting events appropriately
• Demonstrate sound knowledge and clinical decision-making for designated patient populations
• Follow all Medical Center, Division of Nursing, and unit-specific policies and procedures
• Incorporate hourly rounding into daily practice
• Demonstrate awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for professional practice
• Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in patient care and unit function, managing situations to reduce risk
• Participate actively in staff development activities
• Formulate and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families
• Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts
• Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to patient and family rights
• Make decisions and take actions on behalf of patients in an ethical manner
• Remain aware of current nursing research and implement findings as applicable
• Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available resources
• Accept accountability for individual practice
• Respect and recognize each patient as a unique individual and provide holistic nursing care
• Collaborate with patients, families, and other healthcare providers in providing care
• Demonstrate effective communication methods and use lines of authority appropriately
• Consistently identify and deliver care according to the established plan of care
• Demonstrate leadership ability and appropriate delegation of tasks
• Practice effective problem identification and resolution skills
• Demonstrate self-directed learning and participate in continuing education to meet professional development needs; attend 75% of all staff meetings and 100% of all mandatory in-services
• Seek validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision-making as necessary
• Participate in development and attainment of unit and departmental goals
• Participate in unit, divisional, and medical center councils and committees as appropriate
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and standards development
• Demonstrate familiarity with Quality in Action principles and participate in the process as appropriate
• Provide age-appropriate care to all patients according to their age groups for the assigned unit
• Interact with patients in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to both psychological and physical needs, and maintain communication to provide a secure and pleasant experience

Clinical Setting

You will work in multiple specialty units including BSU (Behavioral/Special Unit), ARU (Acute/Recovery Unit), and CARS (Cardiac/Advanced Recovery Services). This float pool position exposes you to diverse patient populations, treatments, and healthcare settings.

This is a per diem position within the Flex Staff program. You will receive personalized schedules that allow you to achieve better work-life balance while maintaining flexibility in your work arrangements.

Required Qualifications

• Current New York State nursing licensure, limited permit, or eligibility
• Excellent communication skills and writing ability

Physical Demands

• Appreciable physical effort required, including lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various sizes, capabilities, and abilities
• Some lifting, reaching, and stooping
• Required to be on feet much of the time
• Category I exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues
