Join our Pediatric ICU as a Registered Nurse, where you will provide routine and complex nursing care to critically ill children. In this role, you will practice independently while demonstrating awareness of all relevant clinical aspects, manage long-range care goals, and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to address the complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of pediatric patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
- Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with your level of practice
- Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
- Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education; identify issues and resources
- Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers to manage the clinical situation
- Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in state of employment or compact license
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) required at time of hire
- ACLS certification required
- PALS certification required
Education
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
Onboarding and Competency Requirements
- All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member
- Initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and Pediatric Services-specific competency validation
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements
Certification Grace Periods
Grace periods to obtain required certifications depend on your experience level:
For Experienced Associates (at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years):
- ACLS: within 30 days of hire
- PALS: within 30 days of hire
For New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty (less than one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years):
- ACLS: within 90 days of hire
- PALS: within 90 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience in a related nursing specialty
- Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Pediatric Setting
