Newton-Wellesley Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. This per diem position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment while working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based nursing care.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Emergency Department at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, caring for patients across the full spectrum of acute and emergent conditions. The role involves exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and the physical and emotional demands inherent to emergency nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Assess patients' physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and social needs
  • Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Implement clinical and technical aspects of care and physician orders in compliance with standards of practice
  • Administer medications and IV therapy safely and accurately, using the "5 rights" and barcode scanning where applicable
  • Recognize changes in patient status and communicate appropriately with physicians and healthcare professionals
  • Coordinate discharge planning and collaborate with case managers to address barriers to discharge
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment using proper infection control, universal precautions, and safety protocols
  • Provide patient and family education based on assessed learning needs
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and incorporate recommendations into practice
  • Oversee assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation of patient information

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) state license
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required within first year of employment
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required within first year of employment
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required within first year of employment
  • Other Certificate/Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (degree cannot be waived)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) certification
  • CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification
  • HRS/NASP certification

Schedule and Employment

  • Per diem position with rotating shifts
  • Onsite at 2000 Washington Street, Newton, Massachusetts
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 0 (per diem basis)

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting (35+ lbs with assisted device), carrying (20-35 lbs), reaching, gross and fine manipulation, and balancing. You will have constant exposure to far and near vision demands, talking, and hearing. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling are required. Rare climbing and crawling may occur.

Compensation

Hourly pay range: $45.52 - $110.00, based on skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other essential factors. Comprehensive benefits, career advancement opportunities, differentials, premiums, and bonuses are available as applicable.
