This part-time day position offers registered nurses the opportunity to provide comprehensive nursing care in a correctional facility setting. You will work 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM shifts, delivering timely and accurate assessments, care planning, and patient treatment while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a correctional facility providing medical and behavioral health care services. The role may require coverage at multiple correctional facilities and includes potential backup responsibilities to the Health Services Administrator or Site Manager.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients in a timely and accurate manner
- Contact practitioners to obtain medical orders
- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and other tasks as ordered
- Provide emergency first aid care when appropriate
- Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site as appropriate
- Conduct triage officer intake screenings to assess necessity and priority at sick call
- Collect and record data for statistical reporting on continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated
- Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in patients' emotional or physical condition
- Provide patient education on facility policies and discharge planning
- Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner using appropriate formats and forms
- Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment as directed by practitioners
- Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions
- Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reactions and overdose management
- Maintain working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition
- Maintain working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences as applied to correctional settings
- Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisor
- Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents
- Participate in in-service education sessions
- Perform duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standards
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Oversee and delegate duties as expected and allowed under RN scope of practice
- May be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities
- May act as backup to the Health Services Administrator or Site Manager
- May train new hires and coworkers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Active nursing license in the state where services will be provided, in good standing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on training
- Excellent documentation skills
- Knowledge of RN scope of practice

- Day shift: 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
- Compensation: $50 per hour
