North Oaks Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Ortho Neurosurgery unit. In this full-time role, you will provide direct patient care on a 7am-7pm shift, utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care. You will work as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, maintaining quality standards and effective communication with physicians, hospital departments, patients, and families.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to provide individualized patient care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Administer medications as ordered by physicians and document patient responses
- Monitor patients receiving IV conscious sedation according to policy
- Administer blood, blood components, hyperalimentation, and chemotherapy in accordance with hospital policy
- Assist with quality assurance audits
- Document patient care using vital sign records, nurses' notes, and other appropriate forms
- Maintain adherence to all hospital policies and procedures
- Account for narcotics and report medication errors
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and injuries
- Maintain a clean patient environment
- Monitor equipment function
- Participate in operational functions including scheduling and data collection as applicable
- Maintain current certification in Basic Life Support and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Attend committee meetings and in-service programs as designated
- Maintain knowledge of computerized systems within the healthcare system
- Comply with the Nurse Practice Act and Louisiana State Board of Nursing regulations
- Perform other duties as requested
Physical Demands
- Required to stand and walk frequently
- Lifting and transporting of patients is required
- Motor coordination and manual dexterity are necessary
- Medium strength demands with occasional pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting
- Occasional sitting
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Louisiana RN license
- Current Basic Life Support and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
