Indiana University Health is seeking Registered Nurses for the Operating Room at our Main Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This is a direct care position providing intraoperative nursing care to surgical patients.

Clinical Setting

The Operating Room serves patients during the surgical procedure. Our Main Hospital location currently operates 6 rooms (expanding to 7 with a new hybrid OR) and includes robotics and open-heart capabilities. Our ASC location has 6 rooms and is situated on the main campus at Arnett Hospital. Nurses are required to provide care at both locations.

Patient Population

You will care for patients undergoing general, cardiac, orthopedic, neurological, gynecological, ENT, podiatric, and plastic surgery procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure instrumentation and equipment are functional and available
• Maintain sterility of instrumentation and equipment
• Assist the surgeon and anesthesia team to provide safe and efficient surgical care
• Assist anesthesia during intubation and extubation
• Provide critical care support including A-line placement, trauma care, management of massive blood loss, and response to cardiac and respiratory arrest
• Care for patients during malignant hyperthermia crisis
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary surgical team

Schedule

Various shifts are available. This unit has an on-call requirement.

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) or higher
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license
• Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit specialty and patient care policies

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Orientation and Development

The unit offers a 6-month intensive orientation program. Peri-Op 101 through AORN is integrated into the orientation. After orientation completion, RNs can be trained to scrub at the facility. The unit maintains CNOR certification and Magnet designation.
