Garnet Health Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room to provide safe, timely, effective, equitable, and patient-centered surgical nursing care. You will work in a dynamic surgical services environment, supporting patients throughout their perioperative experience and collaborating with the interdisciplinary surgical team.
Clinical Setting
This position is based in the Operating Room at Garnet Health Medical Center Main Campus. You will care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in an acute care hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care guided by the New York State Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses, and evidence-based practice standards
- Foster caring relationships that facilitate health and healing
- Assess patients and integrate assessment data with clinical knowledge to inform nursing diagnosis and treatment
- Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment to surgical nursing processes
- Ensure safe, quality, and evidence-based perioperative care
- Recognize the importance of patient and staff safety precautions specific to the operating room environment
- Consistently utilize safety precautions and follow appropriate procedures to enhance patient and staff safety
- Identify and report potentially dangerous situations that could cause medical error or patient or staff harm
- Take immediate action to minimize risk of injury when appropriate to your responsibilities
- Report errors to your supervisor and in the MIDAS RDE system on an incident report
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis and other efforts to reduce medical error and patient or staff harm when appropriate
- Complete annual and required mandatory training within specified timeframes
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing
- One year of acute care operating room experience in a hospital or accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), or graduation from Garnet Health Medical Center OR Residency Program when offered
- Associate, Baccalaureate, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, kept current
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
- American Nurses Association endorsed certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses certification (based on certification specialty hours of work requirement)
- Trauma Certified Advanced Resuscitation (TCAR) certification within one year
Physical Demands
- Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
- Considerable visual demands
- Moderate to frequent heavy lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring of patients
- Must participate in Safe Patient Handling Initiatives
- When any caregiver is required to lift more than 35 pounds of a patient's weight, the patient should be considered fully dependent and assistive devices should be used
- New hires must be able to perform RN essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health and Pre-Screening Assessment
- Must be able to perform essential position responsibilities either aided or unaided or with reasonable accommodation as determined by the organization on a case-by-case basis

Working Conditions
- Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances

- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment including gloves, safety glasses, respirators, coveralls, vests, lead vests, and full body suits as needed
- May have contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards
- Garnet Health Medical Center abides with the New York Department of Labor and Nursing Licensure Board recommendation on the 16-hour work limit
Schedule
- 8-hour days with flexible start times between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with primary start at 6:30 a.m.
- On-call required
- Work schedules may include irregular hours including nights and weekends
- Regular part-time position at 0.8 FTE
Compensation
- Hourly range: $56.58 to $62.71
- Compensation range complies with New York State Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements law
- Range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
- Final compensation determined based on factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity
