Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest. In this role, you will direct and manage the care of operative patients throughout the perioperative period, performing patient assessments, maintaining a safe surgical environment, and implementing all policies and procedures. You will handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures and develop individualized plans of perioperative nursing care based on comprehensive patient assessment.

You will work in the Operating Room at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, a nationally recognized health network ranked among the "Best Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report for 23 consecutive years. The hospital holds Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and received an 'A' grade on the Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group.
Responsibilities
- Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing, and wound exposure, as well as patient positioning
- Contribute to overall patient care before, during, and after surgery using technical and mechanical functions
- Perform circulating functions such as monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care throughout the procedure
- Perform scrub functions including selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during the procedure
- Recognize the need for and initiate collaboration and communication with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to proactively resolve patient needs
- Inspect sterile items for integrity before opening or delivery to the sterile field and verify the presence and appropriate color change of chemical indicators in all loads
- Collect and analyze assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues
- Control the surgical environment including temperature management, provision of warm blankets, use of warm irrigation fluids, monitoring of the sensory environment, traffic flow control, and adherence to safety and sanitation policies
Required Qualifications
- Specialized Diploma in Nursing
- Less than 1 year of current operating room experience or completion of a perioperative internship program
- Ability to perform assessments and nursing functions as acquired in basic nursing preparation
- Ability to plan, review, supervise, and inspect the work of others
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Minimum ability to circulate surgical procedures
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification - State of Pennsylvania
- RN - Licensed Registered Nurse, State of Pennsylvania
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to scrub surgical procedures
- CNOR - Certified Nurse Operating Room, State of Pennsylvania

- Day Shift: 0900-1930
- Neuro/Ortho/ENT team assignment
- Onsite position
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs, including pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers (requires 29 lbs push force) and lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of patient weight
- Frequent to continuous standing and walking
- May be required to perform kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR as specific to the role
