Heywood Healthcare is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room to join our Perioperative and Surgical team. In this role, you will provide direct patient care in the surgical setting, including circulating and scrubbing in surgical cases, monitoring patients, and administering moderate sedation in select cases per hospital policy. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical coordinators, and surgical technicians to ensure optimal patient outcomes during surgical intervention.

Responsibilities
- Circulate and scrub in surgical cases
- Monitor patients and administer moderate sedation in select cases per hospital policy
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care plans
- Provide patient care based on established standards of care, protocols, and policies
- Provide patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs
- Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy per physician orders and protocols
- Assess and reassess patient pain levels using the numerical pain scale and notify physicians as needed
- Maintain sterile fields and direct proper care, handling, and sterilization of sterile supplies and instruments
- Verify patient identification, consent forms, operative procedure, and surgical site before taking patients to the operating room
- Apply principles of aseptic practice and oversee selection and preparation of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
- Apply principles of body mechanics during patient positioning and transfer
- Maintain sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy and notify the surgeon of results
- Identify, label, care for, and handle all specimens and cultures per established procedures
- Provide thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses
- Provide timely and thorough reports to other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain hand hygiene compliance and promote a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff
- Report incidents in a timely and effective manner
- Comply with hospital attendance and tardiness policies and complete all mandatory requirements
- Conduct all interactions in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner
- Advocate for patient privacy and confidentiality
Required Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts RN license
- Active BLS card upon hire OR obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire
- Recent operating room experience
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $39.58 - $78.93 per hour
