Registered Nurse - Operating Room - Hamilton Surgery Center - Full-time - Day

Capital Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room at Hamilton Surgery Center. This full-time, day-shift position delivers quality patient care in a surgical setting through collaborative teamwork and the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will work with physicians, surgeons, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes, ensure patient safety, and support patients and families through their surgical experience.

Clinical Setting

This position is based at Hamilton Surgery Center, part of Capital Health's network of progressive healthcare facilities. Capital Health is accredited by DNV and includes two hospitals, an outpatient center, satellite emergency department, and an expansive network of primary and specialty care services.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality care to patients through collaborative teamwork using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Assure patient safety by executing appropriate policies and procedures
• Provide appropriate support for pain management using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures
• Assist patients and families in identifying individualized comfort measures
• Follow up on internal resources to determine outcomes of interventions completed by other departments
• Mobilize resources in complex cases to maximize patient control and participation in recovery
• Provide information and interpretation of the patient's condition and offer coping mechanisms to both patient and family
• Assess how much information a patient wants and needs while using vocabulary and approaches that enable successful processing of care and treatment
• Formulate and document discharge plans that maximize the patient's ability to continue meaningful life activities
• Integrate assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to foresee potential age-specific healthcare needs and anticipate patient needs
• Ensure handoff communication that includes reports on situations most likely to develop and problems awaiting the patient
• Identify proactively issues related to patient education for medication management and provide discharge planning with medication instructions
• Use discretionary judgment to appropriately modify patient care regimens and facilitate appropriate responses from other healthcare team members
• Explore multiple aspects of care regimens with case managers and healthcare providers to promote appropriate resolution
• Display ability to see the entire unit and be self-motivated to develop plans for adjusting staffing patterns as needed
• Attend educational sessions in areas that improve your ability to assess departmental needs, including charge nurse workshops, leadership training, critical decision making, and workload prioritization
• Plan and provide unique and individualized comfort measures using intuitive and innovative approaches that are scientifically sound and evidence-based
• Participate in unit-based and hospital-based committees
• Participate in performance improvement activities at the unit and hospital-wide level
• Participate actively in preparation for various regulatory agency readiness
• Participate in unit-level efforts to achieve successful patient satisfaction scores and maintain awareness of HCAHPS measurements
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing
• Must have Operating Room and Circulating experience
• Active Registered Nurse license in New Jersey or NLC multi-state license
• AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider certification
• ACLS certification (or must obtain within 6 months of hire date)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $43.90 - $59.69 per hour (based on full-time equivalent, 1.0 FTE)

Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status. When determining base salary, Capital Health considers factors including location, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, market data, and internal equity.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires frequent physical demands including pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching forward and overhead, squatting/kneeling/crawling, wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities, keyboard use/repetitive motion, and taste or smell. Occasional demands include sitting and climbing stairs or ladders. Continuous demands include standing, walking, carrying objects, and talking or hearing.

Lifting requirements: 35 lbs from floor to waist; 25 lbs at waist level and above.

Sensory requirements include very accurate 20/40 near and far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and accurate hearing.

Anticipated occupational exposure risks include bloodborne pathogens, chemical exposure, airborne communicable disease, and dust/particulate matter.
