The opportunity

Job Description

IU Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room on a full-time, day shift basis. This position is part of a comprehensive OR Fellowship Program designed to support nurses transitioning into perioperative nursing. You will work in a 29-bed operating room suite (including 2 hybrid ORs and 1 IMRIS) serving a Level 1 Trauma center with diverse surgical specialties.

Clinical Setting

You will provide perioperative nursing care across multiple surgical specialties including orthopedics, orthopedic trauma, neurosurgery (brain and spine), cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, general surgery, otolaryngology, gynecology, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, and urology. The OR is a Magnet-designated unit with an active, engaged team culture focused on process improvement and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

As an OR nurse, you will:

  • Scrub and circulate in surgical cases
  • Develop clinical skills in perioperative nursing through the Perioperative 101 training program
  • Participate in orientation and preceptor-supported learning
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on process improvement initiatives
  • Provide quality, compassionate patient care in a fast-paced surgical environment

Schedule

Day shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with some on-call requirements (self-scheduled). Experienced OR nurses are required to complete orientation during day shift hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse license
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required based on unit specialty and patient care policies

Note: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience, subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer.
