The opportunity

Job Description

We are seeking a Registered Nurse Operating Room Circulator for a part-time position. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive patient care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical procedures. You will work under the supervision of the Supervisor of Clinical Services, applying the nursing process to assess patient needs, establish nursing diagnoses, and implement individualized plans of care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess physiological and psychosocial health status of patients in the surgical setting
  • Assess and document patient pain per policy
  • Complete patient history and verbally report pertinent information to appropriate staff
  • Document information legibly in patient records using appropriate professional title
  • Establish nursing diagnoses and identify desired patient outcomes
  • Formulate and implement nursing care plans tailored to patient and family needs
  • Demonstrate proper preoperative communication and reporting procedures
  • Perform and document surgical case counting procedures correctly
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures
  • Manage efficient operating room turnover time between cases
  • Obtain blood products using proper technique
  • Verify proper patient identification per policy
  • Verify and mark surgical sites per policy
  • Anticipate surgeon's needs during surgical procedures
  • Assess and problem-solve in response to changing patient conditions
  • Respond to emergencies appropriately
  • Continually adjust care plans based on patient and family data
  • Practice within legal and ethical guidelines including the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and organizational policies
  • Demonstrate accountability, flexibility, and safe clinical judgment
  • Participate in a professional nursing organization

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse license
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in conformance with recognized nursing standards, department policies, Patient Bill of Rights, and JCAHO regulations
