Panorama Eyecare is seeking a Registered Nurse - Operating Room / Circulator for The Eye Center of Northern Colorado - Precision in Fort Collins. In this full-time role, you will work collaboratively with the perioperative team to deliver exceptional patient care during operative and procedure phases. You will be responsible for circulating duties across all surgical specialties in an ambulatory surgery center setting, with a focus on ophthalmology and outpatient procedures.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center environment dedicated to eyecare. The role involves working with adult and pediatric patients undergoing various ophthalmic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform circulating duties with efficiency for all specialties of the ambulatory surgery center
- Ensure proper techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice
- Demonstrate high-level customer service in a compassionate, caring manner
- Position patients for safety and comfort, adjust surgical tables as needed, and prepare operative sites
- Monitor for breaks in aseptic technique
- Assist with gathering proper supplies and equipment for surgical procedures and maintain a neat, orderly environment
- Assist anesthesia providers with intubation and extubation of patients
- Assist with postoperative medications and dressings
- Maintain accurate documentation of nursing interventions
- Handle specimens according to policy and procedure
- Update physician preference cards as needed
- Stock and order medications in the operating room and for anesthesia
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment and machines; notify appropriate personnel of equipment or instruments needing replacement or repair
- Identify potential or actual risks to patients and others and take action to eliminate or minimize risks and maximize safety
- Facilitate efficient flow of patients and surgeries
- Communicate changes to appropriate personnel
- Immediately report any unusual occurrences to the OR Manager or Director and document in a timely fashion per policy
- Assist in training and orientation of new employees
- Take an active role on departmental committees
- Actively pursue continuing education
- Provide education and support to patients
- Participate in all mandatory staff meetings
- Maintain flexibility in job duties and work schedule
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school
- Current Colorado RN nursing license in good standing
- BLS certification
- Two years of operating room experience
- Ability to communicate effectively and work compatibly with all physicians and staff
- Strong organizational skills and understanding of efficiency and cost effectiveness in an ambulatory surgery setting
- Knowledge and clinical skills to perform job duties and responsibilities
- Ability to make quick assessments of patients and handle emergency situations effectively and quickly
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work various days and shifts
- Age-specific competencies for adult and pediatric patients
- Knowledge of specialized equipment used in operating rooms
- Knowledge of proper use of biological indicators, chemical indicators, preparation of wrapped loads, and proper use of autoclaves
- Knowledge of anesthetic agents and complications
- Knowledge and skills to properly prepare and sterilize instruments according to policies and procedures
- Demonstrates positive attitude and professional behavior at all times in the workplace
- Demonstrates understanding of the importance of efficiency and cost effectiveness in an ambulatory surgery center
- Willingness and aptitude for learning new technologies, skills, and ideas in a changing environment
- Knowledge and compliance of all Surgery Center and Panorama Eye policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Operating room experience in ophthalmology and outpatient surgery
Licenses and Certifications
- ACLS certification must be completed within three months of hire
- PALS certification must be completed within three months of hire
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly rate: $40 - $43 per hour based on experience and certification
