Join Nebraska Methodist Health System's Nurse Enrichment Team (NET), a comprehensive new graduate RN program designed to launch your nursing career with broad experience across multiple medical-surgical specialties. This position offers nights 7pm to 7am on a 24 or 36 hours per week schedule at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Program Overview
The Nurse Enrichment Team provides new graduate RNs with structured exposure to seven medical-surgical units: Rehabilitation, Short Stay, Oncology, Medical-Surgical, Medical Observation, Acute Care for the Elderly, and Orthopedic-Neurology. You will begin with a 6-week orientation on one unit to build a strong foundation in clinical skills and patient care. Following orientation, you will rotate through each unit in two-month assignments, gaining equal exposure to diverse patient populations and clinical practices. During the first week of each rotation, you will receive 1–3 shifts of float orientation to help you adapt to each unit's unique environment.
This program is designed to provide comprehensive medical-surgical experience while preparing you for advanced roles in nursing, including critical care and specialty practice areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide age-appropriate patient care with individualized customer service according to patient needs
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments to determine assigned patients' nursing care needs, incorporating data from patients and significant others
- Develop, review, revise, and individualize plans of care to address nursing care needs for optimal patient outcomes
- Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate
- Provide patient teaching specific to health care problems
- Implement interventions consistent with established plans of care in a safe and appropriate manner
- Follow nursing protocols and standards of care for your unit
- Evaluate patient care to determine response to interventions for optimal patient outcomes
- Monitor outcomes and document patient response to interventions
- Provide complete verbal or written change-of-shift reports using SBAR format (situation, background, assessment, and recommendation)
- Perform technical skills competently and independently to ensure patient safety
- Learn new skills and equipment within area specifications and timeframes
- Demonstrate correct and safe technique in equipment use according to product information and policy manuals
- Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission
- Communicate effectively to solve problems at personal and unit levels
- Participate in restocking and maintaining a clean unit environment
- Maintain professional appearance, behavior, and work environment
- Initiate action to correct, prevent, and minimize risks to patients, families, and hospital employees
- Complete appropriate report forms for any identified risks
- Work within the scope of practice as defined by Nebraska Nurse Practice Act
- Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice
- Act as fiscally accountable for human and other resources
- Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing, OR an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN within 5 years from date of hire
- Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or temporary permit while awaiting licensure
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Current BLS certification at time of hire
- Certification in area of specialty from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- For Rehabilitation specialty: Certified Rehabilitation RN (CRRN) and Gerontological Nursing Certification (GERO.BC)
- For Oncology specialty: ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
Specialty-Specific Requirements
- For Oncology: Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required
- For Medical Observation and Orthopedic-Neurology: NIH Stroke Scale training or proof of training required within the first 6 months of hire
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required, OR Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with BSN to be obtained within 5 years from date of hire
Licenses and Certifications
- Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or temporary permit while awaiting licensure
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire

Job Hazards
Occasional exposure to physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors), equipment/machinery/tools, pressurized gas, and hazardous drugs requiring personal protective equipment. Frequent exposure to chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex), biological agents (airborne and bloodborne viruses), and mechanical moving parts/vibrations.
