Registered Nurse - Nurse Enrichment Team - New Graduate Program - Days

The Nurse Enrichment Team (NET) is a new graduate RN program designed to launch your nursing career with broad and diverse clinical experience. Based at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, this program offers a structured pathway through seven medical-surgical units: Rehabilitation, Short Stay, Oncology, Medical-Surgical, Medical Observation, Acute Care for the Elderly, and Orthopedic-Neurology.

Program Structure

You will begin with a comprehensive 6-week orientation on one unit to establish a strong foundation in clinical skills and patient care. Following orientation, you will rotate through each of the seven units in two-month assignments, gaining equal exposure to diverse patient populations and clinical practices. During the first week of each rotation, you will receive 1–3 shifts of float orientation to help you adapt to each unit's unique environment. This program is designed to build confidence and competence across multiple specialties while preparing you for advancement into higher acuity roles, including critical care and specialty practice areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide age-appropriate patient care and identify opportunities for individualized customer service based on patient needs
• Perform initial and ongoing assessments to determine patient nursing care needs, incorporating data from patients and significant others
• Develop, review, and individualize plans of care in collaboration with providers and other clinical disciplines
• Provide patient teaching specific to health care problems and ensure care plans reflect continuing care needs and discharge referrals
• Implement interventions consistent with established plans of care following nursing protocols and current evidence-based practice standards
• Evaluate patient responses to care and interventions, monitor outcomes, and provide complete shift reports using SBAR format
• Perform technical skills competently and independently while maintaining patient safety
• Maintain professional behavior, attitude, and demeanor in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Initiate action to prevent and minimize risks to patients, families, and employees; complete appropriate incident and variance reports
• Work within the scope of practice as defined by Nebraska Nurse Practice Act
• Delegate appropriately and evaluate plans for utilization of staff at all levels of practice
• Act as a fiscally responsible steward of human and material resources

Schedule

• Days: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Full-time and part-time options available
• 24 or 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or temporary permit while awaiting licensure
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing, OR an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN within 5 years of hire
• Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire (strongly preferred at time of hire)
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, hospital personnel, and coworkers
• Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments
• Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills required for department and hospital information systems

Additional Requirements by Unit

• Oncology: Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required
• Medical Observation and Orthopedic-Neurology: NIH Stroke Scale training or proof of training required within the first 6 months of hire
• Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Specialty certifications from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility
• Oncology: ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
• Rehabilitation: Certified Rehabilitation RN (CRRN) and Gerontological Nursing Certification (GERO.BC)

Physical Requirements

This position requires medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force. You will frequently perform balancing, carrying, crouching, lifting, pulling/pushing, repetitive motions, stooping/bending, and twisting. You will constantly perform grasping, hearing, reaching, seeing/visual acuity, speaking/talking, standing, and walking. Occasionally you will perform climbing, crawling, kneeling, and sitting. You will frequently use keyboarding/typing and distinguish colors.

Job Hazards

This position involves occasional to frequent exposure to physical hazards including noise, temperature, lighting, and wet floors; equipment, machinery, and tools; pressurized gas; and hazardous drugs requiring personal protective equipment. You will have frequent exposure to chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex) and biological agents (airborne and bloodborne viruses). Rare exposure to radiation (alpha, beta, gamma particles such as X-ray, CT scan, Gamma Knife) may occur.
