Registered Nurse New Graduate Winter 2026 Cohort St Vincent Hospital

St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Billings, Montana is hiring new graduate Registered Nurses for a structured Nurse Residency Program beginning November 4, 2026. This full-time position (36 hours per week) is designed specifically for RNs with less than one year of experience who are graduating in summer or fall 2026.

As a Registered Nurse, you will assume responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. You will utilize the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.

Nurse Residency Program Overview

This structured program provides new graduate RNs with the tools and support needed to build clinical confidence and competence:

• Paid clinical training hours
• Simulation-based learning and educational webinars
• Case study reviews and skill development sessions
• Monthly in-person learning and collaboration meetings
• Dedicated RN mentorship and preceptorship support

Responsibilities

• Assess physical, social, and psychological status of patients, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills as appropriate
• Seek and evaluate information from the interdisciplinary team, patients, families, physicians, and support staff
• Use assessment information and critical thinking skills to collaboratively develop individualized plans of care
• Actively involve patients, families, teams, and physicians in care planning and patient education
• Plan and prepare patients for follow-up support needs, including teaching and referrals
• Direct the interdisciplinary care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration
• Provide or delegate care consistent with the plan of care, guidelines, and professional licensure provisions
• Set priorities and coordinate patient care delivery by effectively managing time, supplies, and resources
• Evaluate patient response to interventions through review of goal achievement, clinical outcomes, and patient and family satisfaction
• Revise the plan of care as indicated and reassess changes appropriately
• Promote the nursing profession and participate in the development of others
• Integrate legal and ethical standards into practice, comply with regulatory standards, practice within scope of licensure, provide accurate and timely documentation, and understand legal implications of care delivery

• Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Operating Room (OR/Perioperative Services)
• Neuro Surgical Trauma
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Orthopedic/Medical-Surgical Trauma
• Medical Oncology
• Telemetry (Tele)
• Observation/Med-Surg Overflow

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ASN or BSN)
• RN license (or ability to obtain by start date)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain)
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice
• RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of hire date

Schedule and Shifts

• Status: Full-Time (36 hours per week)
• Shifts: Variable shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting pay: $38.37 per hour, with potential increases based on experience (range $38.37-$57.29)

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
