This position is a Registered Nurse New Graduate role in the Medical Telemetry unit at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed RN while participating in patient care delivery and orienting to RN assignments. This role is designed for nursing graduates who are enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and working toward passing the State Boards examination to obtain an RN license.
This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week on variable shifts. The role may include medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN.
Program Duration and Requirements
You can remain in the Nursing Graduate position for up to 12 weeks while enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the residency program before providing any direct patient care. After the 12-week period, or if you fail the State Board exam a second time, you can no longer remain in this position. You will then need to apply for other open positions you qualify for or face termination. Successful passage of the State Boards examination and RN licensure is required to continue employment with Intermountain Health.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
- Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
- Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development of the interdisciplinary plan of care
- Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering patients' physical, emotional, and social needs, age, ethnic origin, and other relevant factors
- Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
- Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, and learning readiness
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
- Recognize and demonstrate legal and ethical implications of care delivery by practicing as a Nursing Resident under RN supervision, complying with regulatory standards, maintaining accurate documentation, and preserving confidentiality
- Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and residency program requirements
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
- Enrollment and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care
Physical Requirements
- Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
- Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, care providers, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation, information access, and medication preparation
- Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
- May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
Compensation and Benefits
- Entry pay for New Grad RN (Unlicensed): $32.27 per hour
- Entry pay for Registered Nurse (Licensed): $35.22 per hour
