The opportunity

Job Description

Intermountain Health is seeking Registered Nurse graduates for a 12-week Nursing Graduate position in Surgical Services at Logan Regional Hospital. This role is designed for newly graduated RNs who are enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and working toward passing the State Board examination to obtain their RN license.

As a Nursing Graduate, you will work under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse in the clinical setting. You will participate in patient care delivery, orient to RN assignments, and may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN. This position provides structured clinical experience while you prepare for and take your State Board exam.

Clinical Setting

This position is located in Surgical Services at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
  • Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
  • Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care
  • Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering specialized needs including physical, emotional, and social needs, age, and ethnic origin
  • Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
  • Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient/family requests
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role under direct RN supervision
  • Practice legally and ethically, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve confidentiality
  • Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and Nursing Residency program requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Enrollment and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care

Schedule and Employment

  • Part-time position: 20 hours per week after approximately 6 months of orientation
  • Closed on all Intermountain Holidays
  • On-call is required

Compensation

  • Entry pay for Nursing Graduate (unlicensed): $32.27 per hour
  • Entry pay for Registered Nurse (licensed): $35.22 per hour

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
  • Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation
  • Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
  • Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded rooms with equipment and power cords
  • May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Program Terms

This Nursing Graduate position can be utilized for up to 12 weeks while enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. After the 12-week period, or if you fail the State Board exam a second time, you can no longer remain in the Nursing Graduate position. You may apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA. Failure to pass the State Board exam or secure another position will result in termination.

Note: Registered Nurses with more than one year of nursing experience should apply to Experienced RN positions only.
