Registered Nurse New Graduate Surgical PCU

Banner Health is seeking Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a comprehensive transition program designed to support nurses moving from graduation into professional practice. This full-time position is placed in the Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix, where you will care for cardiac and surgical patients while developing critical thinking skills through exposure to moderate acuity patients.

The Surgical PCU provides a solid foundation in cardiac nursing and creates pathways to advance into intensive care units, emergency departments, operating rooms, and other specialty areas. PCU nurses are highly recruited for their critical thinking abilities developed through patient acuity and complexity.

Program Overview

Banner Health's New Nurse Experience (NNE) is an accredited Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The program provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships while transitioning to full competency.

You will be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators on your assigned unit. The expectation is that you will remain on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive comprehensive training. Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframes
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Formulate individualized plans of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Implement care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in patient records in a timely, legible, and policy-compliant manner
• Provide care based on best available evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts regarding patient care
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Day shift
• Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week
• Weekend and holiday rotations required
• You must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility where you are hired

Required Qualifications

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
• Previous healthcare experience
• Professional certification
• Additional related education and/or experience

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position.

• Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
• 18% night shift differential when applicable
