This position offers an excellent opportunity for a new graduate registered nurse to begin your nursing career in obstetrics and gynecology. You will provide direct nursing care to a group of patients assigned based on matching patient needs with your clinical competencies. This role may qualify for a sign-on bonus.
You will work under minimal supervision while completing established competencies for the position during your introductory period.
Responsibilities
- Assess human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of patients, families, and significant others
- Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate individualized patient care plans based on ongoing assessments
- Recognize changing patient conditions and utilize unit resources, chain of command, and Rapid Response Team (RRT) appropriately and in a timely manner
- Document all plans and care provided
- Identify patient and family education needs and provide education through individualized instruction, written materials, and other available resources
- Assign nursing care to licensed staff and delegate nursing care to unlicensed staff while coordinating workflow
- Calculate and administer medications
- Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members in planning and managing patient care
- Participate in discharge planning and provide instruction to patients and families
- Maintain and promote professional standards through participation in inservices, committees, and staff meetings
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Texas State License for Registered Nurse
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) - Active healthcare provider BLS certification on hire (ARC or AHA); must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role
- AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) - Must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role
- Fetal Heart Monitoring training
For New Graduate or First-Time OB-GYN Service Line Nurses:
- Intro to Fetal Monitoring (Basic FM) - Within 30 days of hire
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring - Within 9 months of hire (after completing Basic FM)
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring - Within 9 months of completing Intermediate FM
For Nurses Experienced in Labor and Delivery:
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring - Must show evidence of successful completion within the past 2 years; if not completed within past 2 years, must complete within 6 months of hire
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring - If current AWHONN certification exists, renew by recommended renewal date; if Intermediate FM completed within past 2 years, must complete Advanced FM within 9 months of hire; if Intermediate FM obtained after hire, Advanced FM must be completed within 9 months of Intermediate FM completion
- S.T.A.B.L.E. - Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer date into unit (renewal only required for Maternal Transport Team)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Two years of acute care experience
- Previous clinical nursing experience
