Registered Nurse New Graduate Med/Surg Unit

This position is part of the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and is designed for newly graduated registered nurses preparing to obtain their RN license. You will work on the Medical Surgical unit at Logan Regional Hospital under the direct supervision of a licensed RN, participating in patient care delivery while completing your residency program and preparing for the State Board examination.

This is a temporary position lasting up to 12 weeks while you are enrolled in and actively progressing through the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. Upon successful completion and passage of the State Board exam, you will transition to a licensed RN position. If you do not pass the State Board exam on your second attempt or are not hired into another qualifying position, employment will be terminated.

You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before beginning direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering specialized needs including physical, emotional, and social factors, age, and ethnic origin
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient requests
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
• Practice legally and ethically under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and residency program requirements
• May participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN

Clinical Setting

Medical Surgical unit at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah.

Schedule

• Full-time position: 36 hours per week
• Night shift: 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM
• 3 shifts per week
• Every other weekend required
• Rotating holidays

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program (education will be verified)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Enrollment in and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care

Compensation

• Entry pay: $32.27 per hour (unlicensed nursing graduate)
• Entry pay: $35.22 per hour (upon obtaining RN license)

• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded rooms with equipment and power cords
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
