Registered Nurse New Graduate Medical/Orthopedic Unit

Intermountain Medical Center is seeking Registered Nurse New Graduates for the Medical/Orthopedic Unit. This position is designed for newly licensed or soon-to-be-licensed RNs who will work under the direct supervision of an experienced Registered Nurse while completing the Intermountain Nurse Residency program.

This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) with variable shifts, rotating weekend requirements, and holiday requirements. You will be required to work one mandatory on-call shift during each 8-week period following orientation.

Responsibilities

As a Nursing Graduate, you will work under direct line-of-sight supervision of an RN and participate in patient care delivery. Your responsibilities include:

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development of individualized care plans
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering patients' physical, emotional, and social needs, age, and ethnic origin
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as appropriate
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role
• Practice legally and ethically, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and protect patient confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner and successfully complete the Nurse Residency program

Program Details

You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care. This position may be utilized for up to 12 weeks while you prepare for and take the State Boards examination to obtain your RN license. After the 12-week period, or if you do not pass the State Board exam on your second attempt, you will no longer be able to remain in the Nurse Graduate position. You may then apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA. Failure to pass boards or secure another position will result in termination.

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, care providers, and the ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex equipment with precision, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; and navigate crowded rooms with equipment and power cords
• Ability to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Compensation and Benefits

Entry pay for unlicensed Nursing Graduates is $32.27 per hour. Once licensed as an RN, entry pay is $35.22 per hour. This position is benefits eligible and includes a comprehensive benefits package covering wellness programs.
