Registered Nurse New Graduate Medical/ Telemetry

Intermountain Health is seeking Registered Nurse New Graduates for the Medical/Telemetry unit at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. This position is designed for nurses who have completed an accredited RN education program and are preparing to obtain their RN license through the Intermountain Nurse Residency program.

As a Nursing Graduate, you will work under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse in the clinical setting. You will participate in patient care delivery, orient to RN assignments, and may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN. This role provides structured training and mentorship as you prepare for and take the State Boards examination.

Important Program Details

This position is available for up to 12 weeks while you are enrolled in and actively progressing through the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the residency program before providing any direct patient care. After the 12-week period, or if you do not pass the State Board exam on your second attempt, you will no longer be able to remain in the Nursing Graduate position. At that time, you may apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA. Failure to pass boards or secure another position will result in termination.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development of individualized care plans
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering patients' physical, emotional, and social needs, age, ethnic origin, and other relevant factors
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient/family requests
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
• Practice legally and ethically under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve patient confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and residency program requirements

• Patient population: Medical/Telemetry patients

Schedule

• Full-time position: 36 hours per week
• Night shift
• 6 weekend shifts in the 8-week schedule period
• One on-call shift per schedule period

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program (education will be verified)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Enrollment in and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation, information access, and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Compensation

• Entry Pay (Unlicensed Nursing Graduate): $32.27 per hour
• Entry Pay (Licensed RN): $35.22 per hour
