Registered Nurse New Graduate Medical Oncology

Intermountain Medical Center is seeking Registered Nurse New Graduates for the Medical Oncology department. This position is designed for nurses who have completed an accredited RN education program and are preparing to obtain their RN license through the State Board examination.

As a Nursing Graduate, you will work under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse in the clinical setting. You will participate in patient care delivery, orient to RN assignments, and may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN. This role is part of the Intermountain Nurse Residency program, a structured 12-week orientation designed to prepare you for independent nursing practice.

Important Program Requirements

You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care. The Nursing Graduate position is available for up to 12 weeks while you complete the residency program and prepare for State Board examination. After the 12-week period, or if you do not pass the State Board exam on your second attempt, you will no longer be eligible to remain in the Nursing Graduate role. At that time, you may apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA. Failure to pass boards or secure another position will result in termination.

Note: RN candidates with more than one year of nursing experience should apply to Experienced RN positions only and are not required to attend the nurse residency program.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development of individualized care plans
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering specialized needs including physical, emotional, and social factors, age, and ethnic origin
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, and learning readiness
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
• Recognize and demonstrate legal and ethical implications of care delivery by practicing as a Nursing Resident under RN supervision, complying with regulatory standards, maintaining accurate documentation, and preserving confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation and training requirements, including successful progression through the Nursing Residency program

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program (education will be verified)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position: 36 hours per week
• Variable shifts
• Entry pay for New Grad RN (Unlicensed): $32.27 per hour
• Entry pay for Registered Nurse (Licensed): $35.22 per hour

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
