Registered Nurse New Graduate Maternity Unit

This position is a Registered Nurse New Graduate role in the Maternity Unit at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed RN while completing the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and preparing to pass the State Board examination to obtain your RN license.

This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on the night shift. The role is designed for nursing graduates who have completed an accredited RN education program and are enrolled in the residency program before providing any direct patient care.

Responsibilities

You will participate in patient care delivery under direct RN supervision, including:

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering specialized needs such as physical, emotional, and social needs, age, and ethnic origin
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient requests
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
• Practice legally and ethically under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and residency program requirements

You may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN.

Program Duration and Advancement

This position is available for up to 12 weeks while you are enrolled in and actively progressing through the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. After the 12-week period, or if you fail the State Board exam a second time, you can no longer remain in the Nursing Graduate position. You may apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA. Failure to pass the boards or secure another position will result in termination.

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program (education will be verified)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Enrollment and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time, 36 hours per week
• Night shift
• Entry pay for unlicensed nursing graduate: $32.27 per hour
• Entry pay for licensed RN: $35.22 per hour
