Intermountain Health is seeking Registered Nurse graduates to join the Intermediate Surgical Care department at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) with variable shifts designed for nurses who have completed an accredited RN education program and are enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program.
As a Nursing Graduate, you will work under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse while participating in patient care delivery. This role provides structured orientation to RN assignments and may include medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN. The position is available for up to 12 weeks while you complete the Nurse Residency program and prepare for the State Boards examination to obtain your RN license.
Clinical Setting
You will work in the Intermediate Surgical Care department at McKay-Dee Hospital, providing care to surgical patients in a supervised clinical environment.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
- Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
- Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development of individualized care plans
- Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering patients' physical, emotional, and social needs, age, ethnic origin, and other relevant factors
- Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
- Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, and learning readiness
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
- Practice legally and ethically under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve patient confidentiality
- Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner and successfully complete the Nurse Residency program
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
- Enrollment and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care
Important Program Requirements
You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care, including supervised care. This position is available for up to 12 weeks while you work toward passing the State Boards examination. If you do not pass the State Board exam on your second attempt or are not hired into another position after the 12-week period, your employment will be terminated. Registered Nurses with more than one year of nursing experience should apply to Experienced RN positions instead.

- Entry pay for New Grad RN (Unlicensed): $32.27 per hour
- Entry pay for Registered Nurse (Licensed): $35.22 per hour

- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
- Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded rooms with equipment and power cords
- Ability to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
