Registered Nurse New Graduate Intermediate Surgical Care

Intermountain Health is seeking Registered Nurse graduates to join the Intermediate Surgical Care unit at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. This position is designed for newly graduated RNs who are enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and working toward passing the State Board examination to obtain their RN license.

As a Nursing Graduate, you will work under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse in the clinical setting. You will participate in patient care delivery, orient to RN assignments, and may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN. This is a structured pathway to independent nursing practice, with the goal of preparing you for full RN licensure.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Intermediate Surgical Care department at McKay-Dee Hospital, providing care to surgical patients in a supervised clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development of individualized care plans
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering patients' physical, emotional, and social needs, age, ethnic origin, and other relevant factors
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, and learning readiness
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
• Practice legally and ethically as a Nursing Resident under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve patient confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and Nursing Residency program requirements

Program Duration and Requirements

This position may be utilized for up to 12 weeks while you are enrolled in and actively participating in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. After the 12-week period, or if you fail the State Board exam a second time, you will no longer be able to remain in the Nursing Graduate position. You may then apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA.

Failure to pass the State Board exam or to be hired into another position will result in termination. You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care, including supervised patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Enrollment in and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before beginning direct patient care

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-Time (36 hours per week) or Part-Time (24 hours per week) positions available
• Variable shifts
• Benefits eligible
• Entry pay for New Grad RN (Unlicensed): $32.27 per hour
• Entry pay for Registered Nurse (Licensed): $35.22 per hour

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
