The opportunity

Job Description

This position is a Registered Nurse New Graduate role in the Inpatient Rehabilitation department at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed RN while participating in patient care delivery and orienting to RN assignments. This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) offering day or night shifts with alternating weekends and rotated holidays.

This role is designed for nursing graduates enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program who are preparing to pass the State Boards examination and obtain their RN license. You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care. The Nursing Graduate position is available for up to 12 weeks while you complete the residency program and prepare for licensure. After 12 weeks, or if you do not pass the State Board exam on your second attempt, you will no longer be able to remain in this position. You may then apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold (such as CNA). Failure to pass boards or secure another position will result in termination.

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
  • Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
  • Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care
  • Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering specialized needs including physical, emotional, and social needs, age, and ethnic origin
  • Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
  • Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient/family requests
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
  • Practice legally and ethically as a Nursing Resident under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve confidentiality
  • Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and Nursing Residency program requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Enrollment and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
  • Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
  • Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
  • Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
  • May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Schedule and Compensation

  • Full-time position: 36 hours per week
  • Day or night shifts with alternating weekends
  • Holidays rotated among three groups
  • Entry pay for Nursing Graduate (unlicensed): $32.27 per hour
  • Entry pay for Registered Nurse (licensed): $35.22 per hour
