The opportunity

Job Description

Northwestern Medicine is seeking Registered Nurses for inpatient nursing positions. This role is part of our Nursing Residency Program, which provides comprehensive support for new graduate nurses throughout their first year. Clinical orientation is tailored to the needs of new graduate nurses with ongoing access to mentors and continued education.

As a Staff Nurse Inpatient, you will provide direct patient care to acutely ill patients, working collaboratively with physicians, ancillary staff, and patients' families. You will be responsible for assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, coordinating care delivery, and evaluating patient progress.

Clinical Setting

Inpatient acute care setting. Status, shift, and unit availability will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze patient data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized care plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes
  • Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff to create documented plans focused on outcomes and care delivery decisions
  • Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings
  • Utilize best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions
  • Maintain adherence to the organization's Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, and all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Maintain ANA standards of professional nursing practice

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong analytic abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in specific clinical area
  • Additional preference for Emergency Room or Pediatric Emergency Room experience
  • Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) certification
