Northwestern Medicine is accepting new graduate registered nurses for inpatient nursing positions through a structured Nursing Residency Program. This role offers tailored clinical orientation and ongoing mentorship support throughout your first year. Available units include Cardiac Telemetry (day shift), Inpatient Rehab (Woodstock location), and Medical Surgical Oncology (night shift). Specific unit, shift, and status will be discussed during the interview process.

As a Staff Nurse Inpatient, you will provide direct nursing care to acutely ill patients using the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. You will work collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff to deliver evidence-based care.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze patient data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized care plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes
  • Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care
  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff to create documented plans focused on outcomes and care delivery decisions
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings
  • Utilize best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions
  • Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong analytic abilities

  • Experience in specific clinical area
  • Additional preferences for Emergency Room and Pediatric Emergency Room experience

The Nursing Residency Program provides comprehensive support for new graduate nurses throughout their first year. Clinical orientation is tailored to individual needs with ongoing access to mentors and continued education.
