The opportunity

Job Description

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is hiring newly graduated Registered Nurses for a structured Nurse Residency Program designed to support the transition from nursing school to professional practice. This fast-track opportunity is available across multiple units and shifts at our 273-bed facility, which serves as the region's only Level III Trauma Center and is recognized as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence.

Clinical Setting

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is located in Virginia Beach, VA, just 15 minutes from VA Beach Town Center and minutes from the Oceanfront. The hospital specializes in heart, vascular, neuroscience, neurosurgery, orthopedics and spine care, cancer care, advanced imaging, and behavioral health. We are an accredited Primary Stroke Center with advanced clinical services and specialized tertiary care.

Nurse Residency Program

All newly hired graduate nurses are automatically enrolled in this comprehensive six-month residency program. The program includes:

  • Hands-on experience alongside trained preceptors across six clinical areas: Medical-Surgical, Intermediate Care, Critical Care, Emergency, Operating Room, and Women's Health
  • Topics covering career pathing, professional development, leadership, self-care, and stress management
  • Immediate residency enrollment following your orientation period
  • Available at all 12 Sentara hospitals
  • No separate application or application deadlines

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited RN program
  • Current Virginia RN license or eligibility to obtain one
  • Graduating soon or graduated with less than one year of RN practice experience

Schedule and Shifts

  • Multiple shifts available
  • All statuses and shifts supported

Compensation

  • Competitive starting salary: $36.00 hourly
  • Sign-on bonus for all new-to-practice RNs
  • Additional compensation may be available, including shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities
