Registered Nurse New Graduate Cardiovascular-Thoracic Unit

This position is part of the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and is designed for newly graduated registered nurses preparing to obtain their RN license. You will work in the Cardiovascular-Thoracic Unit at McKay-Dee Hospital under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse, participating in patient care delivery while completing your residency program and preparing for the State Boards examination.

This is a full-time position offering 36 hours per week with variable shifts. The role is available for up to 12 weeks while you are enrolled in and actively progressing through the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. Upon successful completion and passage of the State Boards examination, you will transition to a licensed RN position.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering specialized needs including physical, emotional, and social factors, age, and ethnic origin
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and patient or family requests
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
• Practice legally and ethically under RN supervision, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and preserve patient confidentiality
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete all orientation, training, and residency program requirements

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Enrollment in and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
• Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items; navigate crowded and busy rooms
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Compensation and Benefits

• Entry pay: $32.27 per hour (unlicensed new graduate); $35.22 per hour (licensed RN)

Important Program Information

You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care, including supervised care. This position may include medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN.

After 12 weeks in the Nursing Graduate role, or if you do not pass the State Boards examination on your second attempt, you will no longer be eligible to remain in this position. You may apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold such as CNA. Failure to pass the State Boards examination or to be hired into another position will result in termination.
