Registered Nurse New Graduate Cardiac PCU

Banner Health is hiring Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a comprehensive transition program designed to support nurses moving from graduation into professional practice. This full-time position is located in the Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a Phoenix, Arizona facility.

The Cardiac PCU is a 48-bed unit specializing in care for patients with cardiac diagnoses including angina, sub-acute myocardial infarction, and heart failure. Patients on this unit receive diagnostic testing and interventional treatments such as cardiac catheterizations, angioplasty, stent placement, ultrafiltration for heart failure patients, permanent pacemakers, and internal cardiac defibrillators. The unit maintains typical patient ratios of 1:4 and features a dedicated Heart Failure Team that collaborates closely with nursing staff to optimize patient outcomes.

Program Overview

The Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE) is an accredited Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The program provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance clinical knowledge, and develop professional relationships while transitioning to a fully competent, professional nurse.

You will be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators on your assigned unit. Banner Health offers multiple career pathways and development opportunities to support your long-term goals, whether in specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing, or other nursing sectors. You are expected to remain on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive comprehensive training.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframes
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Formulate individualized plans of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team members
• Implement care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible, and policy-compliant manner
• Provide care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
• Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Night shift
• Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week
• Schedule includes weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members
• You must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility where you are hired

Required Qualifications

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI, or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
• Previous healthcare experience
• Professional certification
• Additional related education and/or experience

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position.

• Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
• 18% night shift differential when applicable
