This is a Nursing Graduate position in the Bone Marrow Transplant department at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse while participating in patient care delivery and orienting to the RN assignment. This position is designed for new graduates enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program who are preparing to take and pass the State Boards examination to obtain an RN license.
Position Overview
As a Nursing Graduate, you will work full-time at 36 hours per week on the night shift, with one on-call shift every four weeks. This role is benefits-eligible. You will participate in the nursing process under direct RN supervision, excluding independent nursing care. You may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN.
Important Program Requirements
You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care, including supervised care. This position can be utilized for up to 12 weeks while you are in the residency program and working toward passing the State Boards examination. After the 12-week period, or if you fail the State Board exam a second time, you can no longer remain in the Nursing Graduate position. You will then need to apply for other open positions you qualify for, including positions requiring certifications you currently hold (such as CNA). Failure to pass boards or to be hired into another position will result in termination.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient data such as vital signs under direct RN supervision and report significant changes in patient condition
- Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
- Observe and discuss with the RN the prioritization of patient needs and the development and modification of the interdisciplinary plan of care
- Observe the implementation of the patient plan of care, considering specialized needs including physical, emotional, and social needs, age, ethnic origin, and other relevant factors
- Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding changes requiring modification of nursing interventions
- Participate in patient and family education needs under RN supervision, as determined by assessments, patient diagnosis, learning readiness, and requests
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within your defined role, routinely observing and discussing all aspects of care with the RN
- Recognize and demonstrate legal and ethical implications of care delivery by practicing as a Nursing Resident under RN supervision, complying with regulatory standards, completing accurate documentation, and maintaining confidentiality
- Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner per Intermountain Health standards and complete orientation and training requirements, including successful progression through the Nursing Residency program
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program (education will be verified)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
- Enrollment and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care
Physical Requirements
- Ability to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
- Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation, accessing information, and medication preparation
- Ability to lift and use full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing and pulling gurneys and portable equipment; ability to navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords
- May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods
Compensation and Schedule
- Entry Pay (Unlicensed Nursing Graduate): $32.27 per hour
- Entry Pay (Licensed RN): $35.22 per hour
- Full-time, 36 hours per week
- Night shift
- One on-call shift every four weeks

An RN with more than one year of nursing experience is not required to attend the nurse residency program and should apply to Experienced RN positions only.
