Registered Nurse New Graduate Acute Cardiovascular Unit

This position is part of the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and is designed for newly graduated registered nurses preparing to obtain their RN license. You will work in the Acute Cardiovascular Unit at Intermountain Medical Center under the direct supervision of a licensed RN, participating in patient care delivery while completing your residency program and preparing for the State Boards examination.

This is a time-limited role available for up to 12 weeks while you are enrolled in and actively progressing through the Intermountain Nurse Residency program. Upon passing the State Boards examination and obtaining your RN license, or if you do not advance in the program, you will transition to another position or employment will end.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Acute Cardiovascular Unit, caring for patients with acute cardiac conditions. The department is located at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.

Responsibilities

Under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a licensed RN, you will:

• Collect patient data such as vital signs and report significant changes in patient condition to the supervising RN
• Complete accurate documentation under direct RN supervision
• Observe and discuss the prioritization of patient needs and the development of individualized care plans
• Observe the implementation of patient care plans, considering patients' physical, emotional, and social needs, age, and ethnic origin
• Report patient responses to treatments and collaborate with the RN regarding necessary modifications to nursing interventions
• Participate in patient and family education under RN supervision as appropriate
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for patient care within your defined role, routinely discussing all aspects of care with the supervising RN
• Practice legally and ethically, comply with regulatory standards, maintain accurate documentation, and protect patient confidentiality
• May participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN
• Achieve RN licensure in a timely manner and successfully complete the Nursing Residency program

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing (RN) education program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
• Enrollment in and active participation in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing any direct patient care

Schedule

• Full-time position: 36 hours per week
• Variable shifts including weekends and holidays
• One to two on-call shifts required during each 8-week scheduling period

Compensation and Benefits

• Entry pay: $32.27 per hour (unlicensed new graduate); $35.22 per hour (licensed RN)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see and read information, labels, and patient monitors; identify equipment and supplies
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers; ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, and urgent needs quickly and accurately
• Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment with precision; frequent computer use for documentation and medication preparation
• Ability to lift and use full range of motion to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights
• Ability to walk and assist with patient transport and ambulation; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment
• May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods

Program Requirements

You must be enrolled and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before beginning direct patient care. If you do not pass the State Boards examination within the allowed attempts or are not hired into another position after the 12-week period, employment will be terminated. Employees with more than one year of nursing experience should apply to Experienced RN positions instead.
