The opportunity

Job Description

Rhode Island Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse for the Neuro Med-Surg unit. In this role, you will provide direct patient care to neurological and medical-surgical patients under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, implementing individualized nursing care plans from admission through discharge. You will work the night shift on an every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to assigned patients
  • Delegate, supervise, and participate in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, families, and community services regarding patient care outcomes and discharge planning
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide appropriate teaching
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities
  • Utilize available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care
  • Maintain clinical competencies through predetermined credentialing standards, mandatory safety education, and current Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS certifications
  • Identify professional growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel
  • Assume charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Rhode Island or licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns
  • NIHSS Certification within 3 months of hire
  • 8 hours of continuing stroke education required annually

Preferred Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing

Physical Requirements

  • Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status
  • Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients
  • Physical ability for extensive walking and standing
  • Physical ability to lift, position, and push patients on stretchers
  • Exposure to patient care environment

Schedule and Compensation

  • Night shift
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • No driving required
  • Pay range: $35.56–$59.99 per hour
