The opportunity

Job Description

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medical ICU. In this role, you will provide direct patient care to critically ill patients while implementing nursing care plans using the nursing process. You will work the night shift (1900-0730) on an every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday schedule.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Medical ICU at Rhode Island Hospital, caring for patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to ICU patients from admission to discharge
  • Assess patient status and develop individualized nursing care plans
  • Delegate, supervise, and participate in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, families, and community services regarding patient care outcomes and discharge planning
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide appropriate teaching
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities
  • Utilize available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care
  • Maintain clinical competencies through completion of mandatory safety education, Basic Life Support, and ACLS/PALS certifications as appropriate
  • Identify professional growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel
  • Assume charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Rhode Island issued by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Current ACLS/PALS certification as appropriate
  • Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status
  • Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients
  • Physical ability for extensive walking and standing; lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing

Schedule and Work Environment

  • Night shift: 1900-0730
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • No driving required
  • Exposed to patient care environment

Compensation

  • Pay range: $35.56-$59.99 per hour
