The opportunity

Job Description

Washington Regional Medical System is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Main Operating Room. This full-time position provides comprehensive perioperative care to patients before, during, and after surgery. You will work as part of a surgical team in a fast-paced operating room environment, supporting one of Arkansas's top-ranked hospitals and its five Centers of Excellence.

Clinical Setting

This position is based in the Main Operating Room at Washington Regional Medical Center, a 425-bed facility in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The medical center is ranked #1 in Arkansas by U.S. News & World Report and serves a culturally and linguistically diverse patient population.

Schedule

Full-time position, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM with on-call duties.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient health, discuss surgical procedures, and address patient concerns
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including administering medications, starting IVs, and verifying surgical sites
  • Ensure the operating room is sterile, clean, and fully stocked with necessary instruments and equipment
  • Continuously monitor patient vital signs and anesthesia throughout procedures
  • Assist surgeons and medical staff by passing instruments and supplies as needed
  • Maintain sterile fields and adhere to infection control protocols to prevent contamination
  • Provide and monitor care as patients recover from anesthesia
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care instructions and follow-up requirements
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including surgical logs and care plans
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons and surgical staff to ensure optimal patient care
  • Coordinate with the healthcare team for smooth transitions to the next phase of care
  • Assist in transferring patients to the recovery area
  • Participate in cleaning and preparing the operating room for subsequent cases

Work Environment

This position requires spending approximately 80% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 pounds. Approximately 20% of time is spent sitting while performing work in a surgical environment. You will be exposed to body fluids, radiation, and communicable disease.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program
  • Active and unencumbered RN license
  • Current CPR certification
  • ACLS and PALS certifications required within 90 days of hire or transfer
