The opportunity

Job Description

This Registered Nurse position is located at the Life Center in Sacaton and focuses on diabetes education. You will direct and provide nursing care to patients and residents under physician supervision while overseeing the day-to-day nursing activities of LPNs, CNAs, and Unit Clerks. You are responsible for ensuring all critical tasks are completed on a timely basis and that patients receive exceptional, responsive care in compliance with state and federal regulations and contemporary nursing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure patients and residents are comfortable and well cared for according to state and federal regulations and contemporary nursing practices
  • Provide comprehensive wound care and treatment designed to prevent skin breakdown
  • Assess patient and resident comfort and safety needs
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during treatment and examination
  • Observe patients and residents, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisors or physicians of changes in condition, reactions to drugs and treatments, and significant incidents
  • Take vital signs including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other measurements to detect deviations from normal
  • Respond rapidly to life-saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
  • Ensure full Minimum Data Set (MDS) regulatory compliance and coordinate with other staff members
  • Initiate patient or resident education plans according to individualized needs as prescribed by physician and/or facility policy, including patient and family instruction
  • Rotate as required among various clinical services, specialties, units, and operations
  • Perform personal care including making beds, bathing, and feeding patients
  • Participate in department or unit quality improvement activities
  • Ensure full enterprise compliance with all state and federal regulations and medical standards
  • Administer medications with 100% accuracy in terms of medicine, dose, and timing, only as specifically ordered and documented
  • Review physician orders, lab requests, and follow-up needs with patients and residents
  • Chart patient and resident data in compliance with Medicare requirements, accurately noting abnormal findings and changes in condition
  • Collect samples such as urine, blood, and sputum for testing
  • Receive and transcribe physician orders with 100% accuracy
  • Transcribe chart orders and ensure all ordered medications are available as prescribed
  • Record food and fluid intake and output
  • Maintain supplies including stocking, ordering new supplies, and disposing of expired or damaged items
  • Respond to patient inquiries by evaluating and responding to patient problems and questions
  • Coordinate referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices
  • Demonstrate ability to regularly change priorities and accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions
  • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing while performing all essential functions
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Registered Nurse licensure in Arizona in good standing or qualified Compact Licensure
  • Current and continuing BLS training and certification
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Indian Community and/or other Native American cultures
