The opportunity

Job Description

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Labor and Delivery/LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) unit. This Texas Ten Steps Designated Facility provides comprehensive care to pregnant patients, laboring mothers, delivering mothers, and postpartum patients. You will work as part of a dedicated team of Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and OB scrub technicians committed to delivering excellent care during one of the most significant experiences in patients' lives.

Clinical Setting

The Women's Services department at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice specializes in perinatal care. The unit functions as a close-knit team where nurses depend on each other to meet departmental needs. The organization is committed to training and developing nurses to become integral members of the clinical team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to your level of practice
  • Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education; identify issues and available resources
  • Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers to manage clinical situations
  • Meet expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in the state of employment or compact state
  • BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) required at time of hire
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Current certification in one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM, AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor, AWHONN Advanced FHM Instructor, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM)
  • Current STABLE (Post-resuscitation/Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants) certification from one of the following: Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • One year of experience in a related nursing specialty
  • Perinatal RN Residency or recent experience practicing in a perinatal setting

Onboarding and Competency Requirements

All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member. Initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Services-specific competency validation. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is mandatory.

Credential Grace Periods

If you are an Experienced Associate (at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years), credential grace periods are:

  • ACLS: within 30 days of hire
  • NRP: within 30 days of hire
  • AWHONN Intermediate FHM: within 30 days of hire
  • STABLE: within 30 days of hire

If you are a New Graduate or Experienced Associate New to the Specialty (without one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years), grace periods are:

  • ACLS: within 90 days of hire
  • NRP: within 60 days of hire
  • AWHONN Intermediate FHM: within 60 days of hire
  • STABLE: within 60 days of hire

  • 7 AM to 7 PM shifts
