Registered Nurse – IV Team/Vascular Access Service

Baystate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the IV Team/Vascular Access Service at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. The IV Team provides specialized vascular access services throughout the hospital, working collaboratively with nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams to support safe and effective patient care. This highly skilled team plays a critical role in ensuring patients receive timely vascular access and infusion therapy services across a variety of inpatient populations.

This per diem position offers the opportunity to develop and utilize specialized vascular access expertise while working independently across multiple care settings within the hospital.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and determine appropriate vascular access needs
• Insert and maintain peripheral intravenous lines and other vascular access devices according to established standards and best practices
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and bedside nursing teams to support patient care
• Recognize changes in patient condition and intervene appropriately
• Educate patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding vascular access therapies and care
• Document assessments, procedures, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely
• Promote patient safety through adherence to infection prevention and regulatory standards
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, competency validation, and professional development activities

Required Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
• One or more years of registered nursing experience
• Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• Diploma in Nursing
• Basic Life Support certification from American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in vascular access, infusion therapy, critical care, emergency nursing, or acute care nursing
• Knowledge of evidence-based vascular access and infection prevention practices
• Ability to work independently while managing patient care responsibilities across multiple units

Schedule

• Employment Type: Per Diem
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7A-7P or 7P-7A
• Days and Nights Available
• Weekend Requirement: Yes
• On-Call Requirement: None
• Candidates may express preference for Day Shift, Night Shift, or both
